According to well-placed RTO sources, all stationery used for computers has to be arranged for by the employees concerned . Others things which the employees have to manage on their own include the repair and maintenance of the computers and fuel for the generator as well as its maintenance.

The employees also complained that they had not been paid the extra allowance due to them for working as computer operators.

The RTO office was computerised on April 29, 2004 and about 23 computers were installed, but six of these computers have been shifted to Etawah.

However, at present only one computer is functional in Etwah.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the employees said that Rs 100 was being collected from each employee each month to get printed stationery from the headquarters.

Frustrated with the day-to-day collection for repair and maintenance of computers and other supporting equipment, the employees said that they had to manage the extra amount from the consumers somehow.

However, talking to Hindustan Times, RTO Kanpur City Radheyshyam Tripathi expressed ignorance about the matter and said that such a thing could not be possible.

Tripathi, however, assured that he would look into the matter and take suitable action.
