However, it gained against the Pound and ended at Rs 78.16/18 per pound.

The Rupee lost heavy ground due to a slowdown in FII inflows and flaring global crude oil prices at $65.40 per barrel.

The Dollar gained owing to heavy overseas demand from corporates and importers throughout the day.

Foreign Institutional Investors, who put in $7.1 million, were the main sellers in the equity markets.
