A Russian ship with 18 crewmen on board sank in the Sea of Japan on Monday amid heavy storm, the Russian Transport Ministry said. The fate of the seamen was unknown.

Sinegorje, with a lifting capacity of 3,300 tonnes, signalled SOS at 1:40 p.m. local time (0240 GMT), but radio contact with it was lost when the ship was about 250 km the nearest seaport, the ministry said.
A South Korean patrol ship, a Panamanian ship, and an Israeli freight ship nearby rushed to help.
