Sachin becomes most capped one

The trio of ODI veterans is engaged in a neck and neck fight for the slot with all three having held the record from time to time.

Sachin Tendulkar became the world's most capped one-day international player when he turned out against England on Sunday.

Tendulkar, who played in his 368th ODI match here, surpassed Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul Haq and Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya, both of whom have played one match less until now.

Tendulkar who made 35 in Sunday’s match said that the Jaipur wicket was not easy to bat on and any score of above 175 would have been a tough target for the home team.

“The odd ball was keeping low. And a 175-plus target would have been a challenging one.” Expressing satisfaction over his performance, he said, “Seeing the pitch, I just wanted to hang in there and spend some time in the middle.”

Tendulkar, who made his debut against Pakistan at Gujranwala in 1989, had achieved this feat for the first time at Eden Gardens against South Africa last year. Tendulkar, while playing his 357th match, had surpassed Wasim Akram.
