The chief judge in the genocide trial of Saddam Hussein on Wednesday ejected a key defence lawyer and ordered him to be arrested for a day for "insulting the court".

Chief judge Mohammed al-Oreibi al-Khalifah ordered the arrest of Badie Aref, always a vocal presence in the trial.
Aref is defending Farhan al-Juburi, the former head of military intelligence in northern Iraq.
