THE STRIKE by the medicos at GSVM Medical College has proved to be a blessing in disguise for heads for various departments who were stopped from visiting the Saifai-based medical college twice a week, due to the strike here.
Now that things are limping back to normal with the out patient departments and emergencies of six hospitals under the medical college functioning in a routine manner, the departmental heads are once again tense with the thought of travelling 400 kilometres twice a week.
It may be noted that all heads of clinical departments were asked by the government to visit the Saifai medical college every Thursday and Friday. Albeit the departmental heads, including medical college professors, got a reprieve when the High Court directed the government not to send any professors from other medical colleges to Saifai by transferring them.
The heads of departments, who were silently enjoying the strike so far by confining themselves to their private clinics, have all of a sudden started feeling the heat with the fear once again looming large.
A senior professor who visited Saifai a couple of times before the anti-quota strike, told Hindustan Times, “Due to the strike, we were forbidden by the college administration to go to Saifai as here we had to deal with patients on a war footing.”

{{/usCountry}}When principal of GSVM Medical College Dr SK Katiyar was asked to comment over resumption of departmental heads’ visits to Saifai, he said, “We haven’t thought over it yet as things are gradually coming back to normal. Right now their services are required here in the medical college and in future if their services in Saifai are sought, then we will think about that.”
