Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, the PCC chief said mystery shrouded the release of the boy. Questioning the police theory about the rescue operation, Khurshid said the possibility of big kidnapping shark with links in the government could not be ruled out. He alleged it was indeed shameful that the government was involved in whole drama. However, another senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi directly accused the Chief Minister of complicity in the case. Alvi said the role of the police was suspect and the Chief Minister should clarify it. Khurshid said the government had been contributing to the fast deterioration of law and order.

Expressing concern over plight of drought-hit people in Bundelkhand, Khurshid said the State Government had concealed the actual situation from the Centre.

About the Central rule in UP, Khurshid said his target was to strengthen the party in the state. He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and the Election Commission had already been apprised of the prevailing situation in the State. The Congress chief said it was for them to take appropriate action to hold free and fair election. Claiming that the Congress was ready for the poll, Khurshid said the Election Commission should first assess the ground realities and availability of adequate security forces to go for early poll.
