THE RULING Samajwadwadi Party has once again fallen back on youth power to regain lost ground in the state. Facing anti-incumbency because of poor performance of party ministers and other leaders, the party has now planned to project the frontal organizations under MP from Kannauj Akhilesh Yadav.
While directly interacting thrice during the last few months with youth leaders, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has given ample indication of his preference for early assembly elections in the state.
Except party national general secretary Amar Singh and PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, no other minister or leader was allowed to participate in these conferences. The reason was to take feedback about ministers, MPs and MLAs from the frontal organizations. Now the chief minister has issued instructions to youth wings to prepare “confidential reports” about the performance of party leaders, including ministers. There is a feeling in the party that in order to pursue their vested interests senior leaders largely ignored the youth wings in the districts, which has now been creating problem.
“It’s now imperative that efforts must be made to assuage the hurt feelings of the youth,” said a senior leader. Again at the conference of frontal organizations on Sunday youth leaders came out not only against officers for not doing work but also targeted district party leaders for their apathy. The chief minister was shocked when participants raised their hands to say that their works were not being done in districts.

{{/usCountry}}The silence of ministers and other senior leaders over the ongoing Congress diatribe against the party leadership is also intriguing. Instruction for “confidential report” is thus aimed at identifying the black sheep in the party for pre-emptive action before it is too late.
After sudden outburst of SP MP from Agra Raj Babbar (suspended from party now) against Amar Singh, the party could ill afford any other front during the election year. While desperate moves are on to plug loopholes in the organisation, the leadership is of the view that only youth wings can steer the party through the crisis for which power-hungry in the party are largely responsible.
