THERE IS a misconception among people regarding Sanskrit. They feel that now it has become obsolete, said Ramakant Shukla, former Head of the Department (HoD) of Sanskrit from Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh.
He was invited as the chief guest in the concluding function of 'Sanskrit Diwas Samaroh' held at Ganganath Jha Sanskrit Vidyapeeth here on Thursday.
In a brief interview with HT Allahabad Live, Shukla said that Sanskrit was the main language used by our ancestors but with the passage of time, this language lost its significance. "However, much work is being done at the moment to make it popular among the masses. And it is a misconception among people to regard it as a language losing its ground," he said.
Shukla affirmed that new books are being written in this language and late Prof Vidya Niwas Mishra did an extensive work in Sanskrit.
"Even the students have started showing interest in this language which has kindled a new hope among the scholars as this initiative might take it to new heights," he added.
He, however, rued over the new works being hidden from the eyes of the readers. He considered the lack of interest of publishers in publishing the works of the new writers. Later, Shukla attended the function which took place in the evening. He distributed prizes to the winners of the competitions which took place among the students on August 22 and 23.

{{/usCountry}}According to the principal Gopa Raju Ram, the main competitions were debate, antakshari and speech competition held on the last two days. All the events took place in Sanskrit to promote the language.
