AFTER THE billiards tournament, snooker matches started on Wednesday in the National Billiards and Snooker Tournament being organised by the Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department at BHEL Senior Club.
In the biggest upset, the bronze medallist of recently concluded World Snooker Championship, Alok Kumar, lost to Sarang Shroff.
In his first match today, Alok Kumar faced a 3-2 loss against Sarang Shroff who registered a registered 16-65, 75-65, 63-44, 20-68 and 62-39 win.
However, Alok bounced back in his second match and defeated Pankaj Advani 3-0 in straight frames. He won the match 93-34, 64-0, 64-27. After defeating Alok in his first match, Shroff lost in straight frames to against Pankaj Advani — 73-24, 79-01 and 63-49.
In other important matches, Yasin Merchant lost to Manan Chandra 0-3. Manan won the match 65-42, 72-19 and 68-63.
On Wednesday, playing against Siddharth Rao, Kumar faced a 2-3 defeat.
Though Kumar won the first frame 79-26, the loss of concentration in the rest of the frames cost him the match. Rao played a fabulous game to outsmart Kumar.
After winning second and third frame in a row, a confident Rao played in the fourth frame but lost it with the close margin of 67-68.

{{/usCountry}}But his efforts paid him in the last and final frame which he won 57-02. Ashok Shandilya gave another blow to Alok in the second tie of the day.
Alok, who struggled against Rao, played well against Shandilya but failed to save the match. In other matches, Rupesh Shah registered a one-sided 3-1 win over Manan Chandra. He defeated Chandra 88-14, 4-133, 64-39 and 62-22.
