Sarpanchs decry lack of facilities, seek salary hike

VIKAS ANUSANDHAN Evam Shaikshanik Pragati Sansthan and Madhyanchal Forum (Indore) jointly organised a day-long tehsil-level workshop for Sarpanchs in Mhow recently. Around 65 Sarpanchs participated in the workshop and discussed the present Panchayati Raj system and its future scope.
Mhow Janpad Panchayat chairman Sarju Bai inaugurated the workshop by lighting a lamp. Sansthan secretary Manoharlal Yadav highlighted the aim of organising such a workshop. Madhyanchal Forum convener Tapan Kumbhkar informed that the forum draws attention of the government towards the problems in Panchayats from time to time.
Datoda Sarpanch Hari Singh Verma, Sitapat Sarpanch Sita Bai, Simrol Sarpanch Ramjilal and others put forward issues like insufficient funds, technical drawback, problems in tax collection etc.
All the participants demanded that the salary of Sarpanch be raised to Rs 3,000 per month. A block-level Sarpanch Sangh was also formed on the occasion. Kodaria Sarpanch Aarti Sharma was elected as its president. The Sangh management committee consists of 15 members.
