The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking directions to the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to resolve their dispute over bus services between the two states immediately in the interest of commuters
"You talk of judicial activism and then want this court to run buses also," a Bench of Justice KG Balakrishnan and Justice DK Jain observed dismissing the petition filed by one Rajiv Nanda during mentioning.
The petitioner had contended that the stand off between the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on the issue of resuming inter-state bus services was causing tremendous hardships to common people.
According to the petitioner, the present controversy has adversely effected the trade and commerce between the two states besides causing unprecedented hardships to commuters.
The two states had signed an agreement in 1985 for 15 years, which was later extended.
The latest round of the dispute started on November 15, 2006 when the Delhi government seized 11 new buses flagged off by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh operating on CNG.
Following this the Uttar Pradesh government too barred the entry of DTC buses in the state with effect from November 17, 2006 and impounded over hundred DTC buses.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier, hearing a PIL, the Delhi High Court had directed the two states to resolve their differences within ten days from December 1, 2006 but no progress seems to have been made in that direction.
