Irked by their father's "unruly behaviour", two students were thrown out of a private school in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, police said today.
Class I student Toga D Sangma and his elder sister Anameja D Sangma, who studies in class IV, were recently served with transfer certificates (TC) by the Rootland School authorities at Nazing Bazzar in Tura.
"The children were served with TC because the father of the children misbehaved with the school authorities on many occasions," school's headmistress Vivian Sangma said.
After Toga was found outside the school campus during a break on August 10, the school authorities had punished the 6-year-old by allegedly beating him up severely and making him stand in the hot sun, police said. "My children were ousted from the school as I have made a complaint with the authorities about the punishment being meted to my child. If he was found doing something wrong, they should have counselled him rather than torturing. He was so frightened that he refused to go to school the next day," the child's father Marak said.
The school authorities have however, refuted the allegations. "The child was asked to stand outside the class, holding his ears for about 10 minutes when he did the mischief," they said. The parents have written complaints to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Education Minister Amapreen Lyngdoh and other higher authorities. Both the parents and the school have lodged FIRs against each other.
