Schools have their way on winter recess

On Monday, officials of the district education officer (DEO) approached the Haryana Progressive School Conference and asked them to open schools for the senior classes (Class VIII onwards) from the earlier scheduled date of January 10.

However, education department officials also attached a rider with their decision and asked the school authorities to extend the opening timings by 30 minutes.

The Haryana government’s directive, asking private schools to close their institutions from January 5-16, had irked the authorities who stated that it would affect the Class 12

preparations for CBSE examinations, slated for March 1.

Col (retd) Pratap Singh, president of the Haryana Progressive School Conference (HPSC) said, “The DEO officials informed me that higher authorities had decided to allow private schools to resume classes for the senior wing from January 10. The schools had already announced vacations for junior classes up to January 15.”
