"Security has been beefed up in the state with the police conducting regular checks at hotels and lodges. We are covering all places - railway stations, bus stands and places of worship," K P Jain, director general of police, told PTI.

Asked whether the Centre has issued any specific terror alerts to the state in the wake of the recent serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, he said "routine alerts are being received. There is no extraordinary situation (though a terror module has been busted). We are taking all steps to ensure peaceful celebration of Independence Day across the state."

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up at the Egmore and Central railway stations.

Close on the heels of serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad on July 25 and 26, three members of an alleged terror module were arrested in Tamil Nadu.
