With high-profile venues and crowded places emerging as soft targets for terror strikes, Delhi police have put in place massive security arrangements and deployed quick reaction teams at Pragati Maidan for the India International Trade Fair.
Around 850 Delhi police personnel and four companies of paramilitary forces armed with state-of-the-art surveillance gadgetry will guard the venue during the fortnight-long fair that brings of million of people to Pragati Maidan, a senior police official said in the national capital.
More than 50 close circuit television cameras have been installed at all "vulnerable spots" including the main gates, major halls, theatres, public telephone clusters and those areas likely to witness huge crowds as part of the heightened surveillance measures.
As many as eleven Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will be stationed at different locations while several Army mine sweeping teams, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs will scan the venue round the clock to detect attempts to sabotage the event.
"Though we have received no specific threat, the general threat perception is always there. We have taken all possible precautionary measures to ensure that the event passes of trouble-free," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trade Fair) Rajiv Ranjan said.
