Swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag completed 1000 runs in one-day international cricket in the current calendar year during the course of his cameo knock of 27 off 20 balls against South Africa in the fifth and final match of the series at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

The 27-year-old Indian vice captain, who smashed four fours and a pulled six over square leg all off South African veteran paceman Shaun Pollock, needed only ten runs to reach the milestone and he did it in style before being declared out leg before to the same bowler by umpire Daryl Harper.
Harper's decision cut short a very promising innings as India chased the visitors' total of 221 for 6.
Sehwag completed his landmark in his 32nd match this year and his runs included appearances for the World XI squad against Australia in the ICC Super Series held Down Under which have been declared as official ties by the world governing council for the game.
