Virender Sehwag took part in Sunday's dramatic match and was there on the field for the duration, but all doesn't seem to be well. The opener left for New Delhi on Monday to consult a doctor for a blow he suffered on the ribs on Friday.
Sehwag was hit by a local bowler at the nets and didn’t take part in practice but was back for training a day later.
“He is going to see a personal physician and is expected on Wednesday. There is no major concern as such, but it seems he doesn't want to take a chance,” said team manager Ranjib Biswal.
Sehwag’s fitness has been bothering India since the first day of the World Cup, when he chopped an attempted cut on his left knee against Bangladesh. He is also carrying a shoulder problem which has prevented him from bowling. “There is a niggle in his shoulder,” said Biswal.
Because of security issues, India players are staying together even though there are long gaps between most fixtures. Sehwag going home is an exception, like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, who touched base for a short period after the Bangladesh match. While Tendulkar went to Mumbai for an MRI scan on his knee, Dhoni was in Ranchi for the National Games.
