A senior Union Home Ministry official is leaving for Assam on Saturday on a two-day visit during which he will tour certain areas along Indo-Bangladesh border where build-up of forces by Dhaka has been reported.
"Secretary (Border Management) in the Union Home Ministry BS Lalli will tour the border areas as part of overall review of border management, besides reviewing the implementation of Assam accord," Union Home Secretary VK Duggal said in New Delhi.
Asked if the visit was in connection with reports in a section of the media that Bangladesh has deployed more troops and dug up fresh trenches along the border, he said Lalli will review the "entire thing".
Duggal said Lalli was expected to submit his report on Monday.
A Home Ministry spokesman said Lalli, after reviewing the implementation of Assam accord on Saturday, will visit Indo-Bangladesh border areas on Sunday to review the progress of border fencing.
Defence Minister Pranab Mukheree, speaking in the Lok Sabha, termed as "incorrect" a news report that Bangladesh nationals, backed by their army, uprooted boundary pillars along the Indo-Bangladesh border in two districts in Assam and forcibly grabbed 500 acres of Indian territory.
The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed on this border "is on high alert and no fresh adverse possession or illegal occupation of Indian land has been reported in any section", he said in a suo motu statement.
