The rally was on the back of a rise in blue-chip stocks like BHEL, Larsen and Toubro, ACC, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero Honda, Dr Reddy's Lab, Ranbaxy Lab and Cipla.

"The market is in bullish mood ahead of the budget as investors expect some sops to infrastructure, pharma and automobile sector," BSE broker Ratnesh Gupta said.

He said the market was experiencing a fag-end rise in this bull phase, as the upward move was notably slow.

The Sensex touched a peak of 10,195.41 points on February 16, and rolled down to touch a low of 9,970 points before rebounding, said another broker Rajiv Malik of the National Stock Exchange.
