Former chief minister K Karunakaran’s plan to return to the Congress suffered a serious blow on Monday with AICC general secretary Mohsina Kidwai making it clear that the issue was not on the agenda of the party high command.

“This is not on my agenda and it is not an issue before the party high command either,” she told reporters at the state party headquarters here. Speculation was rife that she would call on the senior leader but she dropped the idea after gauging the mood of the senior leaders.

“See I have been here to attend two party camps and I am pleased that the party is much united now,” she said ducking questions on a possible patch up with the senior leader. PCC chief Ramesh Chennithala and former chief minister Oommen Chandy have been opposing the senior leader’s entry saying it would kick faction feud in the party again. Political pundits here attribute Kidwai’s sudden turnaround to strong opposition by the state leaders.
