A team of Greyhound personnel, an elite anti-naxal force, was combing the forest area between Cherla and Kitaram villages when some ultras attacked them last night, a senior police official said.

In retaliation, the police personnel also opened fire at the Maoists, who escaped in the thick forest area, he said.

Preliminary reports from the spot indicated that seven Maoists sustained injuries in the exchange of fire, he said.

However, a police personnel also sustained injury in the encounter and was admitted to a government hospital here after being provided first aid at Cherla village, the police official added.
