Celebrities from all walks of Pakistan's entertainment industry attended the event Saturday evening, some of them arriving in vintage cars to mark 50 years of Lux soap in Pakistan, The News International reported.

Runa Laila, who began singing in Karachi as a teenager, was in full form. So was Meera, whose forays into Hindi films received some hostile reaction at home.

"Meera stole the limelight with Runa Laila, the singing sensation of the 70s.

The event paid homage to Nazia Hassan, the aap jaisakoi sensation of the 1980s Indian film Qurbani," the report stated.

It also remembered Mohammad Ali, the actor who died some weeks ago, and honoured ailing ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

"As Reema won Best Director and Actress award for her film Koi Tujh Sa Kahan' and Moamar Rana won the Best Actor award for the same film, it was evident that Pakistani films were reduced to one-hit-a-year and that sadly there was more to reminisce than there was to look forward to," the newspaper commented.
