Former Union Minister Shibu Soren was produced in a Jharkhand court on Friday for his alleged involvement in the massacre of 11 people in Chirudih village in 1975.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief was brought to Jamtara district from New Delhi on Friday under heavy security. He was produced at Additional District Judge (ADJ) Arun Kumar's court.
Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto and his sons Durga Soren and Hemant Soren accompanied him while a large number of JMM workers were present outside the court premises.
Soren is currently serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail for murdering his private secretary Sashinath Jha. He was sentenced by a Delhi court December 4.
The Jamtara court had issued a production warrant against Soren on December 12.
Soren is accused of having incited a mob to kill 11 people, including nine Muslims, in Chirudih in 1975 in a move to drive away "outsiders".
A total of 60 people, including Soren, were accused in the case, but 25 of them have already died.
The former minister is also accused of killing two people in the state's Giridih district.
With the trial of the two cases, Soren is likely to remain in jail in Jharkhand and monitor the functioning of the party and keep close watch on the Chief Minister Madhu Koda government.
