At a time when Gurgaon was supposed to get 220-230 lakh units of electricity, to cope with the daily demand of 170-180 lakh units, from April this year, the city has been witnessing acute power crisis.

Arun Gupta, managing director, DHBVN, claims to have taken adequate steps to bridge the gap. “We have purchased 550MW electricity from different sources and this has helped reduce the problem. The Jhajjar plant will start operating by and by June 7,” said Gupta, who took charge only a week ago.

“We have been purchasing 150 lakh units daily from National Grid to meet the peak summer demand," he added, admitting there is a 30% shortage across the state due to technical snags in the power plants.

According to a DHBVN official, Gurgaon's actual demand is 220-230 lakh units daily of which 70% goes to the domestic sector, 20% to industries and 10% to agriculture.
