Normal life was affected in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday due to the shutdown call issued by hardline Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the Delhi Police's directive putting restriction on the movement of the separatist leader.
There was a very thin presence of private vehicles since the morning with public transport staying off the road in most districts in the Kashmir Valley.
The shutdown witnessed all business establishments and offices closed in all major towns, including Pulwama, Shopian, Sopore, Baramulla, Pattan, Anantnag, Pampore and Kupwara.
In Srinagar city a few shops remained open in the wake of the shutdown call.
The government deployed additional troops at sensitive places in the Valley.
Forces in riot gear manned all major streets of Srinagar prone to stone-throwing incident.
The day, however, passed off peacefully by and large.
"No major incident was reported from any corner," a police spokeman in Srinagar said.
The Delhi Police had asked Geelani, who is in New Delhi for medical treatment, not to leave the capital.
Geelani was asked for a convenient date and time to meet an officer investigating a hawala case in which his close aide Ghulam Muhammad Bhat and two others were held by the Delhi police.

{{/usCountry}}Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar claimed Geelani was being framed to defame the separatist movement in Kashmir.
United Jehad Council (UJC) chairman Syed Salahuddin had condemned the restriction on Geelani and supported the shutdown call.
Meanwhile, the moderate Hurriyat, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, accused the J-K police of intimidation and rampant arrests of youth in the Valley.
"There is a continuous crackdown on the youth. Such repressive measure of the so called government will not cow down the sentiment of people or their zeal to fight for their rights," said a Hurriyat spokesman in a statement.
The spokesman accused the police of rounding of dozens of youth in north Kashmir's Kreeri and Pattan area "without any reason and rhyme".
