Sister Act: The Amrita aura

Amrita first waltzed into MTV as a VJ, chased tinsel dreams and now sizzles in a red hot item act like elder sister Malaika.

It was almost inevitable. Petite Amrita Arora, who’s always walked in big sister Malaika’s sexy stilettos since childhood, first waltzed into MTV as a veejay, then chased her tinsel dreams and is now sizzling much like Malaika did in a red hot item act.

In NR Pachisia’s Zameen, Amrita does the bump-and-grind routine with commendable ease in a typically hipshaking number, Dilli Ki Sardi airing on music television.

Amrita’s filmi career might not have the requisite zing right now (apart from a stray Awara Pagaal Deewana she doesn’t have much to crow about) but she’s not the latest item girl. “I saw the dance number as a challenge. There’s nothing wrong with doing item numbers: It’s not as if I am doing it because I have nothing better to do. I enjoy moving with music. Malaika and I learnt Bharatanatyam as kids. Only that I cheated a lot and didn’t go to my dance classes too regularly,” says Amrita with a grin.

Amrita, in fact, doesn’t let hits or flops affect her. After Awara... hit the bull’s eye, Amrita even went on a signing binge: she’s doing Shart-The Challenge (Tusshar Kapoor), Tanuja Chandra’s Stardust and an untitled film opposite Dino Morea and John Abraham. “Movies are an addiction but I don’t let them rule my life. Once I walk out of the studio I am in a mood to party. I can watch upto four films on my DVD. Once the make-up is off Amrita the actress goes hiding. I don’t even discuss my work at home. My parents would think I am mad talking films with them,” she points out firmly.
