Six people died while 12 others were critically injured in a head-on collision between a roadways bus and a private cab near Badarkha crossing on National Highway 24 Saturday afternoon, police officials said.
As per official sources, around 20-25 people were returning from Garhmukteshwar after a pilgrimage in a Mahindra-Max cab. The vehicle collided with a Delhi-Shahjahanpur-bound roadways bus near the crossing.
“Six persons, including two woman and two children, died on the spot while a dozen have been critically injured and have been referred to Meerut hospitals,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Capt. M.M. Baig told HT.
Police officials said that as portions of the highway were dug-up for roadwork, the drivers could not control their vehicles. According to police, both vehicles were moving at a high speed.
As per sources, the dead belonged to a single family.
Their identification was carried out by police officials.
Officials said and more casualties could follow as the accident had completely crushed the hired cab.
The accident also resulted in an hour-long traffic jam on the accident site which was later cleared up by the police officials.
