Six people, including three women, were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a market complex in Meghalaya on Wednesday, police said.

"The blast took place at 11 a m inside a hardware store at Tura super market complex. It was an IED blast and we are collecting the details," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) G H P Raju said.

Police said that two of the six are in a serious condition and all of them have been rushed to the government-run Tura Civil Hospital.

"The blast is mainly to create fear psychosis in the minds of the people. We are still investigating into it and we are not ruling out the involvement of militant groups," Raju said.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, a massive combing operation has been launched in the area to find and arrest the people who triggered the blast.
