Six persons of a family were killed and five others seriously injured when their vehicle rammed into a lorry in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.
The mishap took place around 0530 hours on the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway when 12 members of a family hailing from Nanded district of Maharashtra were on their way back home from a pilgrimage, police said.
The speeding four-wheeler dashed into the lorry parked on the road in Bhutpur mandal of Mahabubnagar district.
The deceased have been identified as Shivashankar (vehicle driver), Sai, Balaji (12), Kalinda, Laxmibai and Rukmini Bai. Five other occupants of the vehicle who sustained serious injuries were shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad.
"Prima facie it seems to be negligence on part of the lorry driver who had parked his vehicle on the road," a police official said.
The lorry driver fled the scene after the incident.
