Six Taliban rebels were killed after they attacked a police post in southern Afghanistan overnight while a bomb blast in the east killed a guard at a telephone installation, officials said on Thursday.
Police in the western province of Farah meanwhile said a suicide car bomb blast Thursday killed only the attacker in the latest of more than 90 such incidents in Afghanistan.
Three policemen and three rebels were also wounded when insurgents stormed the police post in the Girishk district of troubled southern Helmand province late Wednesday, provincial spokesman Haji Mohayedin Khan said.
Helmand, where most of a British deployment of 4,500 NATO-led troops is based, sees regular Taliban attacks.
In eastern Paktia province, a guard working for the Roshan telecom company was killed and another wounded when a bomb fixed to a bicycle exploded close to a signal boosting station, provincial spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish said.
The suicide attacker in Farah province blew up a car bomb near a police patrol. The explosion was in the Bala Buluk district where police have sent reinforcements after a series of insurgent attacks, police said.

There have been more than 90 suicide attacks in Afghanistan this year, killing around 170 civilians, according to the United Nations.
