Increasing power outages with rising temperature during summer have started taking toll on shopkeepers and other small businessmen in the city.

Raj Malhotra of Net World cyber café said: “Despite the price of diesel in increasing. Every day I am spending Rs400 on diesel to run generators. The additional cost of diesel pinches a lot especially when we are paying electricity bill as well.”

Vijay, who runs a grocery store at Sector 71, said: “I sell icecreams, colddrinks and other stuff which the customer wants in summers. Generator is the only ray of hope for us, but the profit percentage goes down.”

Dharam Dev of Sriram Sweets and Restaurant at Sector 48 said: “Nobody would come to our restaurant if air condition does not work. Every day I am spending Rs500 on diesel to run generators. We are not a big businessmen and it is difficult to make both ends meet. The authorities should understand this and should find out a solution for this exaggerating situation.”

Beauty parlours and other such business are no exception.

Kiran Kumari of Touch and Glow beauty parlour said, “All our equipments are electric from massaging machines to dryers. Cost of running all these equipments on generator is really high but we cannot increase the rate of services suddenly. Power cuts have disturbed our budget planning,” she added annoyingly.
