Rubabuddin Sheikh, the brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh who was killed in an alleged fake encounter in Gujarat in 2005, has written to the police asking for more security as he feels threatened by activists of radical Hindu group Abhinav Bharat.
“I have given a list of Abhinav Bharat members to the police. They are working under other banners,” he said. “Some of them have been chasing me and keeping tab on my movements for a long time.”
Rubabuddin (38), a resident of Jhirniya village in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, 60 km from Indore, was speaking to HT after the arrest of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Abhay Chudasama in the Sohrabuddin encounter case.,
The CBI arrested Chudasama in Ahmedabad on Wednesday on charges of trying to influence witnesses.
The Supreme Court on January 12 had asked the CBI to probe the case following a petition filed by Rubabuddin.
Inspector General (Law and Order), Bhopal, A.K. Soni, said that the police had given adequate security to Rubabuddin. “We deployed five policemen when he cited threat to his life earlier,” Soni said. “Now, if he wants more security, we will take appropriate measures after threat assessment.”
Rubabuddin also alleged that Chudasama had threatened him with dire consequences.

{{/usCountry}}“Abhay ko jail bhejna koi mamuli baat nahi hai. Supreme Court ke baad kahan jaoge? (It’s not so easy to send me to jail. How long will you get protection from the Supreme Court?)” Chudasama told him, according to Rubabuddin.
