Soldier, militant killed in Bandipora encounter

A gunbattle broke out in north Kashmir's Bandipora area on Friday night deep in the forests. A militant and a soldier were killed in the operation.

Police sources said the soldiers and hiding militants exchanged fire at Lashkote forests. A security forces' patrol passing in the area spotted the hiding militants and challenged them, ensuing an encounter.

The gunfight was on when the last reports came in.

On August 31, one soldier and three militants were killed in another encounter in the same district.
