The convict has been identified as Amit alias Mita, a resident of Khanpur Kalan of Sonepat district, while the other three accused - Jaipal, Bhupinder Mudlana, Vinod alias Viky (all in early 20s) - were let off due to lack of evidence.

As per details, the 18-year-old victim was abducted by the four accused from the university gate on May 16, 2012.

The accused had bundled the victim, who hailed from a village in New Delhi, in a car and took her to nearby agricultural fields and committed the crime.

They drove the victim back to the university and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone. Later, the victim narrated the incident to one of her friends in the hostel, who informed the university authorities.

The court of additional district and sessions judge (special court) Manisha Batra found Amit guilty of crime and awarded him 10-year RI besides imposing a fine of Rs 5,000.

The court also sentenced the convict to four-year imprisonment for abduction. The punishment will run concurrently.
