After the nearly three-hour long meeting, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot, however, said that the issue of alliance did not figure at the deliberations which were devoted mainly to organisational matters.

A section of the party wanted Congress to align with BSP but Mayawati has already announced that the party would go it alone while another section is for a tie-up with Jan Dal headed by former Prime Minister VP Singh.

He said as per the action plan, Gandhi as also her son and MP from Amethi Rahul would campaign vigorously in the state to galvanise party cadres to take on their political rivals.

"After revamping city and district units, we have decided to hold a number of meetings all over the state to be addressed by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi", Gehlot, party general secretary incharge of the state, told reporters.

Asked what direction they have been given by Gandhi, Alvi said "we have been asked to prepare a ground for the party so that it is able to contest on its own in the next polls."
