Do you have a pollution under control (PUC) certificate? If your answer is no, then there are chances that the next time you drive down to a fuel station in the city, you will not get petrol.
To crack down on polluting vehicles in Delhi, the civil supplies department of the Delhi government on the directions of the L-G has written to petroleum companies, asking them to instruct petrol pumps not to dispense fuel to people who do not have a valid PUC certificate. The letters were sent to the companies on June 10 and the government is waiting for their reply.
This decision was taken by the high power committee on air and water pollution which was constituted on the directions of L-G Najeeb Jung.
As per senior Delhi government officials, the decision was taken after rising concerns over drop in air quality in Delhi and increase in pollution levels.
Rules state that all motorists have to get PUC certificates for their vehicles.
In the meeting it was also decided that pollution check centres need to be made more efficient so that the data they generate becomes more reliable by minimising human interference. “Probes for exhaust checks should be made sensor-based to ensure results are more reliable,” said a senior Delhi government official.

{{/usCountry}}Sources also said that there was also a discussion on making PUC norms more stringent for old vehicles. The meeting was attended by senior officials from various Delhi government departments, traffic police and the civic agencies.
“In the meeting, it was also pointed out that the traffic police and transport department need to intensify their drive against the visibly polluting and non-PUC holders. It was also suggested that the transport department integrate its PUC database with vehicle registration database and take action against violators,” said a senior official.
