The Cricket Association of Bengal on Wednesday termed as "unfortunate" the decision of the national selectors to sack Sourav Ganguly from the Indian Test team, and said the left-hand batsman did not deserve to be treated like this.
"This is unfortunate for cricket in general. And also unfortunate for Bengal cricket," CAB joint secretary Saradindu Pal said.
"He played patient knocks in both the innings of the Delhi Test. He did not deserve such treatment," he said.
"A cricketer, who has scored more than 15,000 runs in international cricket, deserve adequate number of chances before he is dropped even if he plays badly. And in this case, one cannot justify Ganguly's removal on ground of performance also as he has played well," Pal added.
Asked whether Ganguly has become a victim of BCCI politics, Pal said "I cannot comment on this from my position. After all, we are an affiliate unit of the board."
