The Samajwadi Party on Friday denied reports that Rajya Sabha member and Uttar Pradesh Development Council chairman Amar Singh, in a letter to Union Law Minister HR Bhardwaj, supported the ordinance to redefine offices of profit.

Singh's letter asked for three organisations, including the one's held by himself and disqualified MP Jaya Bachchan, be excluded from the list of offices of profit "if deemed fit", SP Parliamentary Board chairman Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters in Lucknow.

"At no point did Amar Singh support the Ordinance," he said.

Reading Singh's letter to Bhardwaj, he said: "Only three organisations which require retrospective amendments, if you deem fit, are the chairperson of the UP Development Council, state Film Development Corporation and the state Irrigation and Flood Control Commission."
