Declaring that the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance in Uttar Pradesh was going steady, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday claimed his party would return to power after the coming assembly elections.
"The SP-RLD coalition will not be weakened and it will continue at any cost. I worked under the leadership of late Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and in UP entered into an alliance with his son Ajit Singh's RLD," the SP supremo told a gathering here, making an election pitch for the farmers of western UP.
Ahead of the assembly polls, he announced launching of people's development schemes in liaison with farmers, traders, the minorities and students and said the SP would emerge victorious at the hustings and return to power next year.
Yadav accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi of ignoring the state's development and said he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his predecessor AB Vajpayee seeking financial help for unemployed youths and both turned down his proposal.
The Chief Minister claimed that during the first three years of his tenure, the state government cleared sugarcane payment balance of Rs 11,000 crore, growth rate went up from 3 to 6 per cent, 31 new bridges were constructed and UP stood on top in implementation of the 20-point programme.

Yadav distributed "Kanya Dhan" cheques to 14,123 girls of which 7,739 were from Meerut, 1,658 from Baghpat and 4,728 from Bulandshahr districts while unemployment allowance cheques were disbursed to 6,473 youths.
