Spanish PM Zapatero arrives in New Delhi

The visit is the first at the Head of the Government level from either side in 13 years.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a four-day visit during which the two countries will sign Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on criminal matters and two other pacts.

The visit is the first at the Head of the Government level from either side in 13 years and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Zapatero will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday after which the two countries will sign three accords -- Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on Criminal Matters, MoU on Institutionalisation of Political Dialogue and MoU between Technology Development Board (TDB) and Spain's Centre for Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).

The Spanish Prime Minister will also call on Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal and Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma.

Accompanied by a high level delegation, including Minister for External Affairs and Cooperation Miguel Angel Moratinos and 50-member strong business group, Zapatero will also visit Pune and Mumbai.
