By asking for a CBI probe into the Noida serial killings and the suspected murder of Kavita Rani the Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has tried to steer clear of the controversy. But the two issues would continue to keep the political pot on the boil till Vidhan Sabha elections.
Major political parties appear to be unrelenting. This was obvious from Congress President Sonia Gandhi's observations that there was nothing like law and order in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and other major political parties have already launched frontal attack on the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
The State Government's move to demand a CBI probe may have partially defused the Opposition's onslaught. However there may be no respite for the government. A CBI probe was also being demanded into suspected murder of Kavita Rani as well.
Opposition's charges that the State Government was patronising the accused have become meaningless following the decision to order a CBI probe. The CBI investigations may cause more embarrassment to Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal in view of close relations of the leaders of two parties with Kavita Rani. Though the Samajwadi Party leader and Minister for Basic Education Kiran Pal Singh has denied any involvement the CBI is bound to question him in the case. This would cause embarrassment to Mulayam government.
The RLD leader and the Minister of State for Food Processing Babu Lal had recently resigned for his alleged close relations with Kavita Rani. Another RLD leader and former minister Merajuddin had also tendered his resignation from party after his name figured in the controversy.

Whether the CM has put his colleague and allies in trouble? This is the million-dollar question being asked in corridors of power here.
Significantly political parties are also targeting Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for not visiting Nethari village of Noida. Chief Minister parried a question on whether he would visit the Nethari village of Noida to meet the family members of serial killing victims.
Chief Minister was asked the question in the backdrop of reports that any chief minister who paid a visit to Noida loses his office. Chief Minister said his representative Minister for PWD Shiv Pal Singh Yadav has already visited Noida. "I will also pay a visit if so needed," said the Chief Minister. "You can consult some astrologers on the issue," said the chief minister.
