To recall, the district magistrate in his short span of tenure as administrator prior to Allahabad High Court order, in December had taken a strong note of insanitary conditions in the city.

Consequently, this time the NN administration does not want any laxity in maintaining sanitation of the city. Nagar Swasthya Adhikari Dr PK Singh said that special gangs comprising of 20 persons each have been formed to look after the cleanliness in the city area.

These special gangs will be deployed in Chowk, Muthiganj and Civil Lines localities for 4 pm to 8 pm to keep clean the area apart from the routine work by regular safai karmcharis. These gangs have been instructed to remove any garbage found on the roads during the fixed timing.

NN has also resolved to clean the main roads of every ward in the city by engaging two teams of 40 safai karmcharis each between 6 am and 2 pm. This drive would continue till Holi, said Dr PK Singh. New tenders are likely to be invited by the NN administration to appoint safai karmchari on the contractual basis.

Meanwhile, NN launched its anti-encroachment drive on Jawaharlal Nehru Road on Friday morning and removed nearly one dozen gumties from Balson crossing to Railway viaduct.

On the other side Safai Karmcharis under the banner of Allahabad Nagar Nigam Safai Mazdoor Union staged a demonstration at Nagar Nigam here on Friday demanding settlement of their long standing demands. They said that if their demands were not met soon they would go on indefinite strike.
