Special polls for missing names: Cong, Left

Congress, CPI and CPM urged CEC to conduct special polls for voters whose names were missing from the rolls.

Political parties in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday asked the Election Commission to conduct special poll for voters who could not vote in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as their names were missing from the voters list.

In a joint memorandum, Congress, CPI and CPM urged the Chief Election Commissioner to conduct special poll for voters who were denied their right as their names were missing from the electoral rolls.

APCC election affairs chairman P Upendra, CPI state assistant secreatry K Narayana and other CPM leaders in a joint press conference said that about one lakh voters were denied voting right on the ground that their names were struck down in the voters list.

"When their names were present in the voters list supplied to candidates how their names were missing in the list at the polling booths and who was behind this ?", they asked.

They also wanted a probe into the entire process which made the Election Commission delete the names arbitrarily.

The parties would tomorrow hold a dharna before the sub-collectors office on this issue.
