A ten-member special investigation team has been formed to closely work with Nasik police and the Mumbai-based Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) to probe Malegaon blasts, Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil said announcing a reward of Rs 5 lakh to anyone providing information leading to the arrest of the culprits.
The special team has been formed under Superintendent of Police PO Malegaonkar, Patil, also holding the Home portfolio, told reporters on Saturday.
The ATS team from Mumbai arrived at the blast site on Friday and has started investigations from midnight, Patil said.
The NSG personnel have also reached the spot along with forensic experts from Mumbai and Nasik. Experts have collected all the evidence from the three spots where the explosions occurred on Friday and the nature of explosive used in the blasts will be ascertained in another two days.
Samples of plastic bags, bicycles and boxes have been collected from the spot, he said adding that a special cell has been set up in Malegaon where the people can give any information in this regard. "They will be given a cash incentive Rs five lakh," he announced.
Patil denied that some parcels found at the blast sites had live bombs. Patil also lauded the "commendable" work done by police personnel to maintain law and order in the affected areas and said "this was possible because of the cooperation we got from the locals".
