Speeding truck crushes girl to death
A YOUNG girl Uma Pandey, 22, was crushed to death by a rashly-driven truck on the busy Stanley Road around 10 am on Monday . So gruesome was the site that many persons who were passing through the road screamed in horror after witnessing the accident. The truck driver escaped after the incident but the vehicle was stopped at some distance and was impounded by the Cantonment police.

The truck driver escaped after the incident but the vehicle was stopped at some distance and was impounded by the Cantonment police.
A resident of New Mehdauri Colony, Uma was working with a private bank in Civil Lines and was on his way to the office on her scooty when the tragedy struck.
The accident took place in front of Bachchaji Apartments, a few hundred metres away from the Traffic Police Lines.
A large crowd gathered near the accident site even before the traffic cops and personnel from Beli police outpost could reach the spot.
However, nobody could muster the courage to go near the body of the victim as it was totally disfigured as the rear wheel of the iron rod-laden truck had run over her.
Later, cops from the Beli police outpost brought a stretcher from the Beli Hospital and carried the body to their outpost for formalities.
Traffic on the road came to a standstill for about an hour. Some youngsters, who could not contain their anger against reckless driving, broke the glass panes of a truck and tried to put up a road blockade.
Resentment gripped the area due to frequent accidents claiming lives of innocents citizens and crippling many.
Her father Ashok Pandey, a lawyer in High Court, had hardly reached the court when some colleague informed him about the tragedy.
He rushed to the accident site and fainted.
Many others, who were present there, could not stop their tears.
Shocked bank officers and employees also rushed to Beli police outpost after the sad news came to them.
An employee, who could not bear the terrifying news, fainted while leaving the office.
It may be recalled that a few months ago a young girl of the same area had lost her life in a similar situation.
