With tourist season at its peak in the region, the Kangra airport is all set to receive more regular flights as private Aviation Company - SpiceJet - will start its services to the state from June 7.
SpiceJet is the second aviation company to start air services after Air India - the flag carrier airline which started its operations early this month.
With this, the Kangra airport has become the first airport in the state to have two regular daily flights from Delhi.
Air India will have to face a stiff competition from the private airliner as it has fixed the cost of travelling lower than that of the former.
Air India air ticket costs Rs 6,000, while SpiceJet is offering the same at Rs 4,775. SpiceJet has put the schedule on its website and will run services till October 2013.
SpiceJet's flight will take off from Delhi at 5.55am and will land in Kangra at 7.30am. The flight will return on the same day at 7.50am.
The company will be setting up its outlet at the Kangra airport soon.
The three airports in Himachal - Jubbarhatti in Shimla, Gaggal in Kangra and Bhuntar near Kullu - were closed in October 2012 as the only service provider Kingfisher airlines grounded and discontinued its operation in the state.
The two airports Bhunter and Kangra were opened early this month after Air India started regular flights to the two destinations. Shimla airport is still closed.
With SpiceJet starting the services, the hospitality will surely be getting a boost as the movement of people has increased to the area.

Meanwhile, director, Kangra airport, Kuldeep Sharma said they had received a communication from the company about the start of their regular flights to Kangra.
