Talking to the journalists here on Tuesday, director (Sports) Sanjay Chaudhary said regular camps were held for preparation of national games. “We had organised a number of camps in all disciplines over the last one year,”
Chaudhary said.

The sports department has hired a physiotherapist (Dr Tarun) who has been with the players to provide necessary support, he said adding, “The department was in favour of providing all necessary support for the welfare of players.”

Expressing concern over the present situation in Assam, the sports department has decided to go in for the insurance of players. “Insurance of players is not only for National Games but for other important events as well,” Chaudhary said.

In all, a 321-member contingent including 56 officials will participate in the National Games. The players will leave for the venue in three parts with the first part departing on February 3. About medal prospects, Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association (MPOA) president Mahesh Joshi said the State would increase its medal tally at the games.

The department has announced to award special cash prizes to National Games medal winners. Gold medal winners in individual category will receive Rs 1lakh while silver and bronze medal winners in the same category will receive Rs 80,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively.

In the team event, gold medal winners will receive Rs 50,000 while silver and bronze medal winners will receive Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department has also announced cash prizes for coaches.
