The mob was hurling stones at police while protesting Israel's Gaza offensive when a CRPF convoy, passing through Mir Bazar area, some 70km from here, came under attack.

CRPF personnel, travelling in the convoy which was on its way to Srinagar, allegedly opened fire in which a 19-year old was injured, police said.

Amir Ahmad Parray was hit by a bullet in the chest and was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be critical, they said.

Protests against the Israeli action in Gaza Strip were reported from all district headquarters and major towns in Kashmir Valley after Friday prayers, police said.

Stone-pelting incidents were also reported from several places, including Nowhatta in the city, but no one was injured.
