"It is now my top priority to learn the fundamentals of being a match referee and I can't wait until my first appointment," Srinath said after being included in the ICC Elite Panel of Referees for the next 12 months.
Srinath joined the existing seven members in the Panel — Chris Broad, Jeff Crowe, Alan Hurst, Clive Lloyd, Ranjan Madugalle, Roshan Mahanama and Mike Procter, the ICC said in a statement.
Broad's name did not figure in the list of ICC Referees released by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) on Monday.
Srinath said it was a "tremendous honour to be asked to join the Elite Panel".
"Match Referees are very important to the smooth running of international cricket and I am looking forward to stepping into this crucial role," the player who played in 67 Tests and 229 one-day internationals said.
